About Head Start

Head Start is a federally-funded child development program designed to help break the cycle of poverty by providing preschool children of low-income families with a comprehensive program to meet their emotional, social, health, nutritional and psychological needs. Head Start’s approach is that the parent is the child’s primary educator and that the entire family, as well as the community, must be involved in guiding and nurturing the child.

When your child attends the Green Bay Public Schools Head Start Program, his or her first classroom experience is truly first-class! From reading and story-telling to recognizing sounds and shapes, each child receives personal attention from state-certified teachers who strengthen basic academic skills in Reading, Math and Science, and foster personal growth.

Research shows the importance of early childhood education and the quality of the Green Bay Public Schools Head Start Program sets a foundation for success. Services include half day and full day Head Start classes for 3 and 4 year old children along with Head Start and 4K collaborative classes. The Head Start program also includes:

  • Medical and dental screenings
  • Meals, snacks, and transportation
  • Bilingual programming for English Learners (Spanish).
  • Trainings and resources for parents, guardians, and families
  • Special services for children with disabilities
  • All services are FREE to our families‼
